The 2008 Show's over but we've got some great memories!
All were warmly welcomed to Stirling and many joined us. We were thrilled to have 'a good visit' at the Show "Where friends are made". It was great to see friends from former shows and makes new ones this year.
Friday, the first Show day, is one Stirling looks forward to. After months of planning and preparation, trucks, sponsors and vendors start to arrive. This year was no different. The Show grounds started to come alive early in the morning. Catering moved into full gear as those hungry travellers arrived and got parked, registered and settled into their Father's Day Weekend Show home. Smiles were wide and conversations were going at full speed as everyone got caught up with each other's news and met new Show visitors. By the time the Opening Ceremonies started that evening, trucks had been shined up and exhibitors were ready for the traditional cheese and wine evening. "It's always a good event," one returning exhibitor was heard to say to a new entrant. He was right. It was, as always, a great start to the Show.
Saturday saw the completion of exhibitors' preparations and class judging started. At the same time, the 'Drive a Big Rig' event opened. The instructor spent the whole weekend watching people grin as they drove around the track. "Awesome!" was one young lady's verdict. The younger visitors were thrilled to be able to do what the adults do - drive. Their chance came at the Children's Safety Village as they drove battery cars around the safety course and received instruction from visiting police officers. They happily went on to bouncy castles and carousel rides and then dragged their parents off to get ice creams at the Ladies Pit Stop. The Ladies this year enjoyed tea room offerings of cake and strawberries and demonstrations designed to interest everyone. (Even the guys that visited enjoyed it. More than a few took advantage of the foot massages that were offered!) The Show was delighted to welcome Women in Trucking to the Show this year. New, too, was University in Trucking Seminars which were well attended. And, of course, there were those gleaming trucks. The crowds who saw them were amazed at the sheer artistry on those vehicles. The day concluded in the 'Stirling way' with the new-for-this-year Tailgate Party, TRUK RODZ burn out, lighting of candles for the Memorial Highway and the ever popular light show. It was a delightful, relaxed evening.
Sunday started as Saturday, with buffet breakfasts and smiles. Open Roads Chapels held a church service and, in what seemed a very short space of time, the Awards Ceremony was held. Prizes, trophies and smiles were the order of the afternoon and then, too soon we all felt, it was the parade through Stirling and the Show was over. All of us at Stirling extend the most cordial of invitations to visit Stirling over the Father's Day Weekend in 2009 so we can do it all again. See you at the Show!
